Skip Hire Prices and Sizes – the bigger the better?

The first question most folks ask us is ‘what size skip should I hire’? Without knowing exactly how much junk you need to get rid of, there’s no way any skip hire company can tell you that without turning up to have a look (but give us a call and we may be able to do just that!).

A good rule of thumb is always get the biggest one you can afford, we’ve all experienced that sinking feeling when you see how quick your skip is filling up and how that pile of rubbish doesn’t seem to be getting any smaller…

There’s nothing worse than having to call for another skip as its bound to cost you more than getting a bigger one in the first place, and let’s be honest, you know there’s tons of stuff buried in your garage or attic that you’ve been meaning to clearout if you have any space left!

Just don’t get carried away and overfill your skip, not only is this dangerous, it’s illegal and you will have to empty it before it can be safely taken away.

The above are a guide to the standard skip hire sizes and prices. We can also provide great deals on larger skips, covered skips, skip bags and commercial skip hire. Please contact us for details or get an online price now.

Skip Hire Permits

Where do you want it – Driveway or Public Highway?

If you’re planning on having the skip outside your house on a public road you could need to get a permit from your local council. Most skip hire companies are given a permit by their local council which saves you the hassle but if in doubt always check.

If you have space for the skip in your drive you have no need to worry, just make sure you are not blocking access if its a shared drive. If you have a bit opf grass outside your house and are planning on leaving it there please check you actually own this bit of land first. Just because you cut the grass, it doesn’t mean its yours!

In many big inner city areas you won’t be allowed to leave a skip in the road at all, permit or not, as there is simply not enough space in the road to safely do so. Don’t worry though, your local depot will be familiar with these rules and regulations and can provide alternative, cost-effective options like skip bags which are easier to get into tight spaces. Check our skip hire locations page to see where your local depot is based.

Not all waste is created equal. What you can (and really, really can’t) put in a skip.

Paper and Cardboard
Green Waste (recyclable)
General Household Waste
General Building Site Waste

Fluorescent Light Tubes
Old TV’s
Computer Monitors
Asbestos (you really need a specialist for this!)
Vehicle Tyres
Tins of Paint (empty or not)
Batteries (from watch batteries to large vehicle batteries)
Clinical Waste

Please don’t bury these contraband goods at the bottom of your skip – our drivers have a sixth sense and will know you’ve been naughty! If you do have any of this stuff to get rid of, just let us know and we can arrange to get it disposed of safely and legally.
